Troubleshooting of BLDC motor in Vacuum Cleaner
Brushless DC motor doesn't revolve
The motor doesn't revolve is probably because of the circuit disconnection, bad contact and damaged motor. Because the general vacuum cleaner has rather simple circuit, it is not difficult to find the position of circuit disconnection or bad contact. The malfunctions usually happen to the power switch, cartridge fuse, power winding roll or poor welding. If the malfunction is found on the power switch, it is mostly caused by the poor contact of the switch. In inspection, attention should be given to the contact of the winding roll, because the installation position of the winding roll is usually concealed, and the dismantling is rather troublesome, it is usually neglected. If the circuit has no obvious short circuit point, the major problem is the motor overload, which could be inspected with emphasis.
If the circuit is inspected to have no problem, and the cartridge fuse is in normal condition too, the fault might lie in brushless DC motor. In normal conditions, the motor has faults of disconnection or poor contact. The disconnection is usually in the outgoing line of the motor, so that it is visible from visual inspection. If it is unable to be judged, the universal meter can be used for the test. Poor contact usually happens between brush and commutator(diode). When BLDC motor is operating, sparkles are easily to be generated between brush and commutator. If the contact between the two is originally weak or the motor is overloaded, the generated sparkles significantly increase and magnify. As a result, the brush and commutator will be frayed quickly, and the contact condition continues to deteriorate seriously, and eventually the motor could not be initiated and operated.
BLDC motor has high abnormal sound or working noise
When the motor rotor collides with stator, the motor bearing is damaged, or the impeller deforms and collides with the shell, the“da da”sound will be generated. At this moment, it is required to dismantle the motor or impeller cover, check the collision site and then rectify.
Overheat of brushless DC motor
When the vacuum cleaner is working, the motor has too high temperature rise and a charring smell will be generated. In serious conditions, the plastic shell will also be heated. After a long period, the cartridge fuse, or even the motor and shell will be burned, thus causing disasters. Such a fault is usually caused by the overload operation of the motor. The specific reasons usually include the following two points:

- Barrier of the ventilated path. It is mainly caused by too much inner dust in the dust collection channel, obstructed air flue, too small air intake (for example, the suction nozzle clings to the ground and so on), wet dust inside and so on, so as to block the loops on the dust filtration cover and so on.
- BLDC motor has partial short-circuit phenomena. It mainly refers to the partial short circuit of the motor rotor, stator winding or short circuit of the commutator.
